A Pretty Sweet Weekend: Films, Semi-Vegatarianism and Dancing

Sup everyone!

So I had a pretty decent weekend and I feel like sharing. On Friday night my father came over to hang out with Mr. Smooth and I and we ordered some Indian food for dinner. As usual, my father gave me a hard way to go because I don't really eat meat anymore and while he and the boyfriend devoured their lamb and rice, I had paneer; he kept insisting that a meal without meat isn't a meal, and teasing that I can't be his daughter because of my strange non-meat eating ways. I stopped eating meat last year simply because I just didn't feel like eating it. I made a Turkey for Thanksgiving and that pretty much sealed the deal. Then I quickly saw how cheap it was for me not to eat it and how creative I was becoming with cooking. But as time goes on, I realize that I do sometimes have a taste for meat but I'm semi-conflicted with eating it because of the condition in which our meat is raised in this country. It's not in the best conditions. I'd feel much better if the meat I ate was raised a little more humanely and if it was better quality. These days, I still don't cook with meat and I consume fish, but I have decided that I will eat meat if it comes from a good source. I'm still researching about what that will entail.

So anyway, because my father was teasing me so much I decided to show him a psychologically fucked up Korean film called Old Boy. I don't know if I mentioned this movie before, but even if I didn't I really cannot tell you what the movie is about except to go watch it. It's dubbed and available on Instant Netflix; the dubbed version isn't bad--I usually hate dubs because of how unnatural the voices sound in English but this one is good.  My father was confused and then flabbergasted and then didn't know how to react, which is was my same reaction when Whole Sister and Mr. Smooth showed it to me. It's a good movie so really, watch it and then please do tell me about it. Here's the trailer:

And now for Saturday night; I went Blues dancing for the first time with fellow blogger/homie Z author of The Feel Of Free and the natural hair blog Leave in The Kinks and that was quite an experience! The venue was at the Manhattan Ballroom where grammy-winning blues musician Chris Thomas King played the night away for the NYC Blues Blaze. I knew nothing about this type of dance before going but after being told it was like "sexy walking" and to not say no to anyone who asked me to dance I got the hang of it. It was fun and I had a chance to talk to some very  interesting people--some I'd love to chat with again and others who I hope never find me on facebook. I was so energized when I got home at around 3am that I ate some pizza and started watching old episodes of Futurama until I passed out on my couch at around 4:30am or so.

Today I am at work and feel like I should be on sitting in park and writing--as cold as it is. Till then I'm going to get through the day, and enjoy my leftovers for lunch of baked macaroni and cheese with Curried fish over rice. #nom  I'm thinking about posting some meatless recipes that I cook with these days, so we'll see.
