Where Are More Harolds and Kumars?

I probably enjoy "non-sensical" or "screwball" comedies because of my father, who was a big fan of Beavis and Butthead (and much to the horror of the mother, had Whole Sister and I watch Beavis and Butthead Do America as children) When I say non-sensical, I mean funny movies where shit can only happen in an alternate universe because it's too extreme. Those movies can be considered escapist to me, along with sci-fi. Whenever I don't want to pay attention too much and I want to just feel foolish, I always want to put on a non-sensical comedy and most times I don't pay attention to whether it's actually good or not. (I confess that I enjoy Borat and am laughing to myself just thinking about the movie "What's up vanilla face?")

I enjoy Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. Not only is it funny but I find it to be a well-made movie; I loved the writing and the characters. I can laugh for days, even though I know riding a Cheetah in New Jersey is damn near impossible and impersonating a doctor will get you in trouble and hang-gliding to White Castle from a random cliff without much injury is ridiculous, this movie is HILARIOUS and I will  watch it any chance I get. I've been trying to figure out for the longest what my obsession with this movie is, why it works. Is it Neil Patrick Harris  hyper-sexualizing masculine "straightness?" The great chemistry between John Cho and Kal Penn, their play on each of their culture's stereotypes without being "preachy?" I mean the movie had a budget of 9 million and grossed 18million domestically so a profit was made. I know that one of the things that really appealed to me about this movie was that it starred two Asians of different ethnicities doing dumb shit you often find white characters do, and while there are obvious references to their ethnic backgrounds it doesn't alienate an American audience, which based on the big movies that are released you would think only white people can represent America comfortably.

I'm wondering why there isn't a big selection of movies of this kind that doesn't have more folks of color as main characters. It's not a "foreign" (no pun intended) concept. I can only think of the new Hangover movie that has Ken Jeong as one of the characters
